Melbourne. The Eight Millimetre Film Centre
produced regular catalogues filled with films
from almost all of the major producers of
Super 8. These included Ken Films (Fox, AIP
and MGM), Castle Films (later Universal 8),
Derann (United Artists and Warner Bros),
Columbia, Disney, Marketing films
(Paramount), and many other smaller
distributors from the US, UK and Europe
including Walton, Mountain, Iver, Techno
Film, Cinevision, Major 8, PM, Powell, Red
Fox, Thunderbird and many more. They
offered a great range of cartoons including
Warner Bros, along with the Ring Classics
range of boxing films, I bought many of these.
Some companies, like Blackhawk Films,
offered a large selection of classic comedies
and silent features via their mail order
catalogues, although I can’t recall any actual
stores here stocking their films.

After several years of operating in Carlton,
Super 8 sales had declined, and by 1984 the

Many large department stores sold not only
Super 8 camera and projector packages, but
many Super 8 films as well. In fact, on at least
one occasion, I recall a full-page
advertisement in The Herald daily newspaper
displaying Super 8 films that were available at
a department store.
