THE HEURTIER TRI-GAUGE PROJECTOR

Over the years, there have been a number of dual-gauge and tri-gauge projectors
introduced for the home movie market. In the early 1950s, the French firm of
Heurtier introduced their model B-44.
Designed to project all
three popular home
movie gauges – 8
mm, 9.5 mm and 16
mm, this machine of-
fered a pretty good
compromise between
the ability to screen
the three gauges and
provide good perform-
ance on all three.
The most obvious part
of the tri-gauge facility
on this machine is the
upper and lower
sprocket assemblies.
The three different
sprockets are incorpo-
rated as a cluster,
which can be rotated
to present the correct
sprocket for the se-
lected film size.
The gate assembly is fully removable by sliding the complete unit upwards and out of
the machine, while the claw setting is selected for the required film by rotating the large
knob near the gate.
The spindles to suit the different film
reels are interchangeable, and simply
unscrew from the fixed shafts in the
upper and lower arms.
The 500 watt 110 volt lamp provides
comparable illumination with other pro-
jectors of this era.
The supplied Angenieux lenses are of
high quality and produce nice sharp
images. Of interest to note is that the
supplied lens for 9.5 mm and 16 mm is
